I am still preparing the hives for winter, thankfully the weather has remained warm to get these ladies ready for winter. I’m still on the pool table not necessarily behind the eight ball, and farther away from a straight shot into a pocket compared to almost week ago. I’m moving ahead!
This morning I installed entrance reducers (a small piece of wood that has cut out in it to reduce the area that bees and invaders can enter into the hive), I worked outside of my normal pattern. I usually start at the top of the hill and work my way down to hive #1. I started with hive # 1 as they are the ones that get the most direct sun in the morning and they will be the ones that warm up most quickly. They had the most bees exit the entrance reducer when I was installing it. The other hives had a few bees come out and check out what was going on when I shifted the hives and was trying to knock the entrance reducer into place. They are curious creatures.
I checked to see if the bees needed sugar syrup later in the day. Hives #4 and #1 needed a refill, #6 is still working on their sugar syrup and hive # 3 is still working on the nectar that I originally gave back to them. We placed the pollen feeders back on their stands today after a cleaning and I placed substitute pollen in them. The bees should have all of their food needs met for them at this time.
I apologize for no pictures at for this post but thank you for reading and as always bee kind!
