And I’m feeling like I’m behind the eight ball. I held off taking off the honey supers on 3 of the 4 hives in hopes of honey collection. If you saw my previous post, I was able to collect some honey from the decision that I made. That decision delayed the treatment of mites on the hives, which luckily Mother Nature provided me the proper weather to treat them.
Now it is time for me to feed the bees. When I harvested the honey, I first harvested out spun out anything that was in uncapped cells. I feed those spinnings, back to bees plus added sugar blocks that I made. After the bees took that in, I have placed a 2:1 solution of sugar to water with bee vitamins. It is time to make the sugar syrup.
I often speak of my survivor hive, hive #1, I’m just amazed at this queen’s ability to go from a queen with a few bees to a queen with a huge colony of calm bees. Hive #6, has what I call pingy bees, they are a little more defensive of their hive. That doesn’t mean that they are bad bees, as I can walk up to that hive without incident, it is just when I take off the covers of that hive they get a little bit moody. Hives #4 and #3 are more like hive #1. I also have been challenged later in the season with the dry weather, as I am not using my smoker during this time, just a bee brush to move the bees out of places I do not want them to be.
I will leave you with a few pictures of my progress and please bee kind.
